Recognition celebrates the practice’s commitment to sustainability and reducing plastic waste in dentistry.
Smart Dental Care has been shortlisted for the inaugural Dentistry DSO Awards 2026, in the Innovation category of the inaugural Dentistry DSO Awards 2026, recognising its commitment to more sustainable dental care through Smart Dental Care’s wider environmental initiatives.
The new awards, organised by FMC, celebrate excellence across dental groups and dental service organisations, recognising achievements in areas including clinical care, patient experience, innovation and team culture.
The shortlisting follows Smart Dental Care’s decision to eliminate plastic-based clinical wipes across its practices, replacing them with more sustainable alternatives as part of its ongoing commitment to reducing the environmental impact of everyday dental care.
At the centre of the initiative is HyGe, a plastic-free clinical wipe system with an innovative hands-free dispenser, designed to cut plastic waste while supporting safe, efficient clinical environments.
The work forms part of Smart Dental Care’s wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on practical changes that make a meaningful difference across its network of more than 30 practices in the North West, Yorkshire, Northern Ireland and Dublin.
Suken Shah, Managing Director at Smart Dental Care, said: “We’re proud to see our commitment to sustainability recognised. Reducing plastic waste in dentistry takes practical changes to everyday clinical processes, and replacing plastic-based clinical wipes is one important step we’ve taken. We hope this work encourages more conversations across the profession about how we can deliver high-quality care while reducing our environmental impact.”
The winners of the inaugural Dentistry DSO Awards will be announced on Friday 11 December 2026 at the Underglobe in London.
